About the Project

The Okland/Skanska team is one of five teams short-listed for the design/build Utah Data Center project. The $1.7 billion, one-million-square-foot facility will be located on 200 acres at Camp Williams, Utah, a U.S. Army/Utah National Guard base known for special operations training. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the federal agency handling the procurement, anticipates that the project will be one of the largest construction projects in the country in the next few years.

The data center will accommodate backup systems and material for several U.S. intelligence agencies, and is to be operated by the National Security Agency. Of the one million square feet planned, 100,000 square feet will house computer systems, while 900,000 square feet will house servers and other support equipment. Approximately 100 to 200 staff will be employed at the UDC. The facility will be completely self-contained with its own infrastructure and systems, and will require 65 mW of power annually.
